FED: PNG must pay security before Sandline court action

SYDNEY, Dec 28 AAP - Papua New Guinea will be forced to deposit $70,000 security costs
before it is allowed to pursue any legal action against mercenary company Sandline, a
Queensland court has reportedly ruled.

The Australian said today that Sandline successfully argued that PNG might not be able to
cover its legal bills.

The decision meant that PNG would be forced to lodge $70,000 security costs before pursuing
any legal action in Australian courts, the newspaper said.

PNG lawyers, who reportedly labelled the decision an "insult", had asked the Queensland
Supreme Court for leave to appeal an international tribunal decision made in Cairns that
ordered it to pay $35 million compensation to Sandline for last year's ill-fated mercenary
mission.
